Cox Plate Carnival – Meeting 1

The two meeting Cox Plate Carnival kicks off on the Friday night before the 2014 Cox Plate with one of Moonee Valley’s famous twilight meets under the lights.

A crack eight-race program features a triple shot of black type action, the feature of which is the $1,000,000 Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m).

The other top race on the card is the $20,000 Group 2 Moonee Valley Fillies Classic (1600m) which serves as a nice lead-up to fillies heading towards more prestigious spring features like the $500,000 Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington Racecourse on Victoria Derby Day.

Cox Plate Carnival – Meeting 2

There is little doubt the Saturday of the Cox Plate Carnival is the more prestigious of the two meetings.

Featuring a bumper nine races the second day is all about the $3 million Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) won by many a turf champion and known colloquially as the ‘race where legends are made’.

Aside from the Cox Plate the day’s other leading event is the $250,000 Group 2 Moonee Valley Cup (2500m), also known as the Drake International Cup, which is one of the traditional lead-up races for horses heading towards the world’s richest handicap – the $6.2 million Group 1 Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m) on the first Tuesday of November at Flemington.
